New Gastropub Beer and Barrel – A Culinary Experience Worth Discovering

The gastropub Beer and Barrel is located in Tallinn’s Old Town, tucked away on the narrow Sauna Street at number 10. While the name might suggest a traditional beer hall, this is far from the case. Beer and Barrel is a cozy, relaxed restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Inside, the walls are adorned with striking portraits of wild animals, and the interior design features plenty of natural wood – creating a rustic, down-to-earth feeling that makes you want to stay longer.

The moment I stepped inside, I had a strong feeling – this place is going to become one of Tallinn’s most popular spots, thanks to its inviting interior alone. But beyond the ambiance, it’s time to dive into what Beer and Barrel has prepared for food lovers during FoodLover Restaurants Week, taking place from February 16–25.

They’re offering four special menus, each with a unique selection of flavors:

🍽️ Lunch Menu 1 – €15.90
  • Rabbit and smoked cheese dumplings

  • Homemade berry pie with vanilla cream and berry sauce

🍽️ Lunch Menu 2 – €18.90
  • Fried mini chebureki with crab and tartar sauce

  • Baked pike-perch fillet with vegetables and wine sauce

🍷 Dinner Menu 1 – €27.90
  • Fried smoked pork ears with garlic sauce

  • Mini pork knuckle – sauerkraut / country-style potatoes / mustard sauce

  • Fried mini donuts – sour cream / caramel sauce

🍷 Dinner Menu 2 – €34.90
  • Boiled crayfish

  • Skirt steak – grilled vegetables / creamy pepper demi-glace

  • Apple caramel cake with ice cream

I personally sampled a few dishes from different menus. For starters, the mini chebureki with crab and tartar sauce caught my eye — and they did not disappoint. Perfectly crispy and surprisingly light, they weren’t greasy at all (no oily fingers here!). The natural crab flavor came through beautifully, and the salty tartar sauce gave it a well-balanced finish. Definitely earned my praise!

For my main course, I went for the skirt steak served with grilled vegetables and a creamy pepper demi-glace.

Oh, that sauce – rich, velvety, and packed with flavor – paired beautifully with the juicy steak. While the steak itself was a bit chewy for my taste, the overall combination was spot on. The portion was just right, and the grilled vegetables added a lovely balance to the hearty meat dish. A comforting, satisfying plate that truly hit the spot.

To finish it all off, I chose the apple caramel cake with ice cream for dessert.

This open-style apple cake is truly what dessert dreams are made of 🤩. The crunchy cookie crumble, the crisp pastry base supporting tangy apples, and the warm blend of spices — absolutely divine. 😋

Honestly, this dessert alone is worth coming back for. Beer and Barrel knows how to end a meal on a high note!

Of course, you won’t be able to try all three of these dishes in one menu – but honestly, I’d recommend any of the four menus available. You’re unlikely to regret it — at least in my humble opinion 😇. Each menu is special in its own way, made with heart, and absolutely delicious.

Another bonus? Their drinks are surprisingly affordable — especially compared to many other places in Tallinn’s Old Town. 😉

So don’t wait – book your table at Gastropub Beer and Barrel today and enjoy these exclusive FoodLover Restaurants Week offers from February 16 to 25. Sometimes, you just have to see (and taste) it for yourself 🤩!
