Art on a Plate and Exquisite Flavours – A Culinary Experience at Merimetsa Resto

Merimetsa Resto is located in the Haabersti district of Tallinn, at Paldiski tee 56 – in the same building as Merimetsa Selver, with a separate entrance on the right-hand side.

In 2023, they were proudly awarded the Silverspoon title for Best Café in Estonia – a true mark of quality.

The atmosphere is warm, spacious, and full of natural light. Soft background music adds a calm and welcoming vibe, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy beautifully crafted food.

During the FoodLover Restaurants Week (February 16–25), Merimetsa Resto invites guests to enjoy three special menus.

I had the pleasure of trying their 3-course experience, offered at just €28 – excellent value for what you get!

🥂 Starter:

Beef Tartare (Böff à la tartar)

The starter was a visual delight – beautifully plated, elegant, and full of color. 👌
The tartare itself was nicely salted, with capers adding a lovely, zesty kick. The portion was surprisingly generous – clearly, they don’t skimp here!
You’re not just getting flavour, but also substance – you’ll leave satisfied, both in taste and fullness 😋.

🍽️ Main course options:
  1. Cod fillet – parsnip purée / asparagus / broccoli / lemon-wine sauce (this was my choice)

  2. Beefsteak with egg – pan-fried potatoes / onions / mushrooms / pepper sauce

Main Course:

I went with the cod fillet, and let me tell you – the dish looked like a true work of art 🤩.

The fish was absolutely delicious – fresh and naturally seasoned, just the way I like it. The parsnip purée was smooth and silky, perfectly complementing the delicate cod. You could clearly see that every detail on the plate had been thoughtfully designed and executed with care.

The portion size was also impressive – you certainly won’t be leaving hungry.

And let’s not forget the house-made sun-dried tomato ciabatta – lightly salty, full of flavour, and honestly so tasty that we finished every last piece they brought to the table 😋.

Dessert:

For dessert, I had the chocolate fondant – a classic, but done really well.

The sweet and salty cookie crumble paired with vanilla sauce was an unexpectedly delightful combination. Add to that the touch of tangy berry jam, and you’ve got a beautifully balanced plate where sweetness, richness, and acidity are all in harmony.

A satisfying and elegant end to a memorable meal.

In addition to the menu I tried, Merimetsa Resto also offers two more special menus during Restaurant Week:

🍴 2-course menu – €15
  • Tom Yum Soup

  • Shrimp Pasta

A perfect option for those who want something flavourful, quick, and satisfying.

🍽️ 3-course menu – €25
  • Beef Carpaccio

  • Blue Mussels in either white wine sauce or Tom Yum sauce

  • Homemade Syrniki – served with house-made jam, seasonal berries, and sour cream

Whether you’re in the mood for Asian spice, classic European seafood, or comforting Eastern European dessert – there’s something here for every palate.

In addition to the cozy evening atmosphere, Merimetsa Resto also offers a weekly rotating lunch menu with delicious daily specials – perfect for a midday treat.
