Mix Resto in Tallinn – 5-Course Menu, Kangaroo Tartare and Flavor Surprises
Mix Resto in Tallinn is located in Tallinn Old Town at Vana-Posti 11/13, inside My City Hotel. It is easy to find, comfortable and right in the heart of the Old Town. I visited to preview the special 5-course FoodLover Restaurants Week menu.
I thought I would go after lunch, expecting it to be a fairly quiet time. Well, not quite 😅 The restaurant was full, and I even noticed people arriving with a map in hand. So yes, this is definitely a place people come looking for on purpose.
One small but very cool detail caught my attention 👀 The owner of My City Hotel is an Italian art collector who has brought several works from his personal collection into the hotel. It gives the whole place a slightly gallery-like atmosphere 🎨. In the lobby, the huge and colorful paintings by well-known Italian naturalist Antonio Pedretti immediately stand out. Even if you are only coming for the restaurant, it is worth stopping for a moment and looking around. Art and a hotel under one roof is a lovely bonus.

During FoodLover Restaurants Week from February 11–22, Mix Resto offers a 5-course menu for only €40, and I would definitely recommend booking a table in advance.
First Impression and a Very Good Start
The interior is cozy and stylish without trying too hard. I immediately got the feeling that attention is paid to the little details here.
We started with homemade lemonade, which was fresh and not overly sweet. A really nice beginning.
Before the first official course arrived, homemade baked goods were brought to the table. They were warm, lightly salty and honestly so good that I was already thinking: okay, this is going to be a very good experience 😋. The thin, crispbread-style bake was the most unusual one and also one of my favorites.
FoodLover Restaurants Week 5-Course Menu – €40
- Tuna poke – wakame salad, edamame beans, cucumber, nori, puffed rice and lime aioli
- Kangaroo tartare à la Mix – quail egg, shallot, capers, Dijon mustard seeds and horseradish mayonnaise
- Prawn risotto with seafood bisque
- Sous vide beef tenderloin at 57°C – Korean barbecue sauce, cucumber and onion salad, potato pancake
- Vana Tallinn Cream tiramisu
Also served at the table: homemade black bread, focaccia and flavored butter.

🐟 First Course – Tuna Poke
The first course was tuna poke with wakame salad, edamame beans, cucumber, nori, puffed rice and lime aioli.
The tuna was incredibly fresh and delicate. The flavors were light, slightly salty and very well balanced. Nothing felt heavy or overdone. It was exactly the kind of starter that makes you hungrier and more curious about what is coming next.

🦘 Kangaroo Tartare – My First Time Trying Kangaroo
Next came kangaroo tartare à la Mix with quail egg, shallot, capers, Dijon mustard seeds and horseradish mayonnaise.
This was actually my first time eating kangaroo meat, and it became one of the most interesting parts of the menu. If I had not known what it was, I probably would have guessed beef tenderloin.
The meat was dark red, extremely tender and delicate. There was no strong or unusual aftertaste at all, just a very tasty and elegant tartare. It also looked beautiful on the plate. And yes, as you might expect, the kangaroo meat comes from Australia.

🍤 Prawn Risotto with Seafood Bisque
The prawn risotto arrived on a very impressive plate. At first it looked as though the prawns were only sitting on top, but there were actually plenty of them mixed into the risotto as well.
The risotto itself was creamy while still keeping a lovely texture. It was not too salty and was simply very enjoyable to eat. Warm, balanced and comforting. This was definitely one of my favorites from the menu. Risotto dishes have become some of my favorite things lately, when they are made properly 😉

🥩 Sous Vide Beef Tenderloin at 57°C
The second main course was sous vide beef tenderloin served with Korean barbecue sauce, cucumber and onion salad, and a potato pancake.
The beef tenderloin was seriously tender and very tasty. The sous vide cooking had definitely done its job well.
The barbecue sauce and seasoning added a deep, savory flavor without hiding the character of the meat itself. Everything felt very balanced, and the beef still remained the star of the plate.

🍰 Vana Tallinn Cream Tiramisu
Dessert was Vana Tallinn Cream tiramisu.
Exactly what a good dessert should be. It was not too sweet, but light, airy and full of flavor. The balance was just right, so it never became heavy or tiring.
And to finish everything off, we had a perfectly foamy Caffè Latte ☕🤍. Together, the tiramisu and coffee created exactly the kind of ending that made me leave thinking: yes, coming here was absolutely worth the time again 👌

Portion Sizes – Exactly Right
One thing I especially want to mention is the size of the courses.
They were spot on.
At no point did I feel too full to enjoy the next dish, but I also never felt like anything was missing. Every course had its own role and kept the experience moving forward without becoming too heavy.
Even though the restaurant was busy, the service remained friendly, attentive and fast. That matters a lot to me. Even with a full dining room, the atmosphere stayed calm and guests were genuinely taken care of.
Mix Resto in Tallinn – A 5-Course Experience Worth Trying
The menu moves from fresh tuna poke to kangaroo tartare, comforting prawn risotto, tender beef tenderloin and finally a light Vana Tallinn Cream tiramisu. It has variety, a little surprise and enough personality to make the whole experience memorable.
Mix Resto is waiting for guests from February 11–22, but do not forget to book your table in advance. This place is popular for a reason, and it would be a shame to miss out on the special menu.
