A Warm Meeting Spot in Tallinn Old Town – Rukis Café & Bakery

Rukis Café & Bakery is located in the heart of Tallinn Old Town, at Viru Street 11.
As you step inside, you’re greeted by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked, warm pastries 🥰. The welcome is just as warm as the cosy and charming interior itself.

From February 17 to 26, during the FoodLover Restaurants Week, Rukis offers two delightfully tempting tasting menus.

2-Course Menu – €17

  • Juicy rabbit burger – iceberg lettuce / onion marmalade / Emmental cheese / mustard mayo

  • Poppy seed cake

3-Course Menu – €23

  • Arctic shrimp salad on brioche with cucumber and chives

  • Braised beef cheek – red wine sauce / airy potato cream / sour cream salad

  • Sweet curd pastry pocket

I tried the starter from the 3-course menu – in simpler terms, a shrimp sandwich.
The whole combination tastes fresh and summery. Honestly, I could easily enjoy this more often as breakfast or a light lunch 👌

For the main course, I had the braised beef cheek. The meat was perfectly cooked and the dish overall was incredibly tasty.

The homemade rye bread – made with hemp, flax, and pumpkin seeds – has a slightly sweet flavor. Add a bit of butter and sea salt flakes on top, and it’s absolutely delicious 😋

Beef cheek – tender and full of flavor.

For dessert, I chose the poppy seed cake. The slice was just right for me – not too sweet, which I appreciate ☺️. The top layers were creamy with vanilla, topped with a nice thick layer of chocolate, while the base had a richer poppy seed texture.
A perfect match with a slightly bitter coffee drink 👌

The café is a popular meeting spot during lunchtime – most of the time, all the tables are taken, and a lot of baked goods are also bought to go.
