Kachka Restaurant in Tallinn – Heartfelt Dishes in the Old Town
Kachka Restaurant in Tallinn was located in Tallinn Old Town at Laboratooriumi 33 / Lai 49. If you had not managed to visit yet, FoodLover Restaurants Week in February 2023 was the last opportunity, because sadly the restaurant closed its doors after February 26.
That was exactly why I recommended Kachka with both hands at the time. You could really feel that the dishes were not simply prepared, but made with heart 🥰

🥗 Roasted Beetroot and Goat Cheese Cream Salad
I tried the vegetarian starter, a roasted beetroot salad with goat cheese cream.
The combination worked beautifully. Beetroot and goat cheese are already a great match, but here the whole dish felt especially balanced and full of flavor.
And the portion? Very generous 🙂 I was already surprisingly full after the starter.
The warm ciabatta served on the side with pesto butter was also dangerously good. A simple detail, but fresh warm bread and a good flavored butter can do wonders.
Thank you for those flavors!

🦆 Duck Confit with Cheese Orzotto
For the main course, I chose the duck leg confit with cheese orzotto and foie gras cognac sauce.
Mmm, this dish was an experience of its own and definitely deserved a special mention.
The duck was so tender that the meat almost fell off the bone by itself. The orzotto was flavorful with a lovely texture, while the cognac sauce added a bright, slightly tangy note that balanced the whole dish.
Everything worked together really well.
The main course portion was also huge, so there was absolutely no risk of leaving hungry 🙂
What Is Orzotto?
Orzotto is an Italian dish similar to risotto, but instead of rice it is traditionally made with barley, often pearl barley.
The result has a slightly grainier texture while still being creamy and comforting. With cheese, it worked particularly well alongside the rich duck confit.

🍰 Classic Cheesecake with Strawberries
To finish the evening, I chose the cheesecake with strawberries.
It was a classic cheesecake without any huge surprise in the flavors, but sometimes the classic choice is also the safest and most satisfying one 🙂
After such a rich and flavorful main course, a simpler dessert actually worked very well.

Kachka Restaurant in Tallinn – A Memorable Final Visit
Kachka stayed in my memory mainly because of its comforting, familiar flavors that still had a polished restaurant touch.
The menu included recognizable Ukrainian and Eastern European dishes such as vareniki, potato pancakes and Chicken Kyiv, but also seafood pasta, duck confit and more adventurous sauces.
My personal favorite was definitely the duck confit with cheese orzotto. Tender meat, a flavorful side and the cognac sauce made it the dish I still remember most clearly.
It is a real shame that Kachka closed after February 26, 2023, but at least the restaurant left behind a very warm memory and one truly memorable food experience 🥰
